Week Two

Week Two

Well another week of some great knowledge. I liked the informtion from our guest speaker about the tier 1,2,3, words and how to discern them. When I was in the classroom I did this kind of choosing  and for those iwth special need we taught survival words. I think this system is better since it will take into effect how language changes and how words kind of come and go.

I watched the powerpoint presentations, and went over the tweets. I was amazed at how well and effectively storify works and will work on this myself to look for uses with my teachers and students. I enjoyed all the sites listed for further information ,like the free ipad apps for  grammar and vocabulary. I have not had time to go over all these but will . Also loved Word Hippo  and will use that with students to make vocabulary bookd.  Poplet is one app that I have presented to the teachers and we use it . I t works very well. Tooontastic is one app that I had used but had lost connection to.It seems that some of the updates make it easier to use.  We have used the app Sock Puppets with the yonger studetns to present words and ideas.

There was so much more like VSS, semantic maps and catagories that we use  daily  with our language program, but this gives more importance to all these techniques as the basis for understanding.

The question in the twitter converstation was what one new technique impressed you. Well I can say the  Tiers of words with definiton of each tier was one and the vocabulary strategy of T.H.I.E.V.E.S that can be used for content vocabulary was also very useful. I had always done a processlike that but it is so well laid out that I can sent it out to our teachers for a quick review of a vocabulary technique and also can be good information for parents.

I am hoping this week will find my machines working and no large storms to know out power and mess electronics up.

I guess I went ahead on the list --thiouht I was to do it all last week.  The list of apps in the twitter feed wws more than worth  being part of this course , as well as the storify lesson.

I hope this blog form is ok. I do not have a spring board account so I have used this.

This is the post for week one. I found the syllabus finally and so got to this. I have read the vocabulary information and appreciate the good  information. I am working on the ebook. but the most important part of this week was  getting used to twitter again and using a blog again--both of which I had done long ago but had not used well. We use mostly goole sites, moodle and edmodo at school. I really thought the twitter meeting was a great way to use it and will take this to the teachers I work with as well as try  to find   ways to incorporate it into my student's work. I had used twitter to follow others to get information  which was good but did not see all of it's power I am working on gathering information for a presentation to show the teachers at my school some of the other functions that twitter can fullfill. Some of the sites I have started to put together are:

how powerful twitter is

Photos — Be sure that someone on your Twitter Team can tweet some photos of the event. This is a great way to give those not at the conference a sense of what the conference feels like. Poster sessions make great photo opportunities, as do presentation slides, sometimes. Make sure to photograph some people, too. http://chronicle.com/blogs/profhacker/encouraging-a-conference-backchannel-on-twitter/30612

Thanks for opening my eyes to the many powers of twitter.
